5/23/18 Hair- Hair Journey Year 2

Hey guys I’m back for my May Hair Journey Post. Now that this side of the world is getting heavily into summer I am taking precautions. Since the last post I am still using The Innate Life Products that I mentioned in the last post. I have added some new products to the line up as well. However, because these products are 100% natural compared to other products I have used on this Hair Journey, my hair has been going through a detoxing period. This detoxing period has made my hair look a little more oily but thankfully less dry.

I have also put my hair on a “washing schedule” if you will. I know that sounds bazaar but it has helped me keep my hair healthy and split end free. This schedule has helped me to leave my hair alone and let it naturally distribute oils and help the hair follicles with hair masks. Aside from the hair masks I have used previously, I have also tried a new one this month. It’s so simple. It’s just a mashed up avocado with your choice of a hair oil. I like to mash up the avocado and add just a few drops of Argon oil (but you can use any you prefer) and I only leave it in for 20 minutes to an hour before I wash it out, distributing on the mids to ends. I only use about half the avocado and save the other half for a face mask or if my sisters want to eat it.

Avocado is so moisturizing for the hair and with my hair changing with the season it is a good transition mask. If you’re like me then you understand that with changing seasons your hair is dry & brittle during the fall and winter, normal in the spring, and oily as all hell in the summer.

Let me know if the avocado mask works for you in the comments below! And be sure to keep a look out for my June Hair Journey post (progress photos to come!)

3/29/18 Hair- Hair Journey Year 2

3 MONTH INTO MY 2ND YEAR OF MY HAIR JOURNEY! This process has been so long! and as crazy as this sounds… I’m thinking I might go into a year three, depending on what my hair looks like in December. Let’s talk about this month….

I have continued using The Innate Life Rose Hair Elixir from last month. I am still as obsessed with this product as I was when I started. I have also continued using the Cocoa Locks from last month, although I have’t been using it as religiously (warm climates have made me want to drink it a little less).

This month I tried the Somerfield Hair Mask. This mask is great because it gives my hair a hydrating boost and they give you the option of adding a protein boost. Protein boosts are great because they help with the hair growth process. I also like that this hair mask comes in a cap form. So all you have to do is make sure you get all your hair inside he cap and seal it around your head. In twenty minutes you take it off and rinse it out!

Another thing I have noticed this past month was from when I got my hair trimmed this month. Yes…. I got my hair trimmed. But it had been eight months since my last trim and my hair needed it. During this process I also learned that all the strands of my hair do not grow at the same rate, which gives me an uneven grow out. Will this make me trim my hair more in this process? No! But it’s good to know. But my hair looks and feels healthier than before and I am happy I gave it some love and took care of the dead ends!

I have learned a few tricks for this journey that most people wouldn’t probably find important but if you are growing out your hair, I think you should:

  1. Take care of your hair. Find a hair regime that you can stick with and DO IT! Your hair will thank you later.
  2. only use the products that are necessary. Putting un-needed things in your hair damages it and slows your process, so don’t use them.
  3. embrace your natural look. Stop using heat tools and dying your hair. People have told me they get so frustrated because they want their hair to grow and it won’t. Heat tools and hair dye are usually the reasons why.
  4. PATIENCE. This is KEY. I know for some of us (myself included) this is  very hard because we want to see results NOW or TOMORROW! But having patience with it will help you see the little changes as it grows over time.

I hope these things helped! See you next month for another update!

1/30/18 Hair!- Hair Journey Year 2

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! BEGINNING MY HAIR JOURNEY YEAR 2! My first post of 2018! I am so excited about this last leg of the journey! My patience has really tested me in this last year! But I can say that my hair length is only half way where I want it to be! Before I started this journey I never would have given much thought to how fast my hair could grow or what it really needed to stay healthy. Had I been through beauty school and knew the basics of hair? Yes! But that didn’t mean that I would know exactly what MY hair needed!

Starting this year I am adding some new products to my routine and will be talking about those in the coming months. I don’t want to introduce them to you just yet because I want to give my hair time to adjust to the new products and see how they help my hair.

Some of the products I will be continuing to use are not only good for my hair but all of them are cruelty free!

  1. Function of Beauty– I am continuing with this shampoo and conditioner because it is personalized to my hair type and what I want to achieve! It’s hand made but also cruelty free, sulfate free, paraben free, and toxin free. The best part- the most expensive it is is $35! I changed my formula a little bit from last time but can’t wait to see how this helps my hair in the new year!
  2. Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin– This leave-in conditioner is by It’s A 10 which is also a cruelty free brand. The Keratin is a protein that your hair naturally produces but the added Keratin in the product strengthens the hair as it grows. This product is a little pricey depending on the oz you buy. Although it is more expensive I’ve found that the 10 oz has lasted me almost a year and I use it every time I wash my hair. It can be also found at Ulta and some drug stores.

These are the only two products I’m starting my year with! But I will be adding to it as 2018 progresses! Are you still on this journey with me???

Allowing Your Skin To Breathe

For starters lets get something clear- it is impossible for your skin to literally breathe. Skin breathing is usually in reference to your pores being open or closed. In reality the third layer of your skin gets its oxygen from your blood supply and the amount of oxygen it gets from that is determined by what foods and liquids you put in your body. The top layer of the skin is protective of the lower levels and keeps oil and dirt as well as the sun from causing severe damage.

Allow your skin to take a break and try going at least two days a week without makeup (whether this is two days during your work week or on the two days you have off/a weekend). Even if you try going at least one day without any cleansing, scrubs, moisturizers, etc. just to give the skin a break and allow for whatever products you use on your skin to continue to work because your skin won’t get very used to it.

Make sure you hydrate! Water is the best medicine for the skin and people are completely unaware! Your body NEEDS water every day, no question. The more water you drink the better your skin will get overtime. There are nutrients your body needs from water and if you are not to keen on drinking plain water, add some of these fruits to it to give it a little flavor. Not only will you be giving your taste buds something different but the vitamins and properties of these fruits can help your body and your skin breath as well!

Little Tip for Clearer Skin Overtime: some mornings I heat up a mug of water and add one to three slices of lemon to it. If I did this every morning I would probably have clearer skin than I do. But doing this every morning will not only eventually give you clear skin but every day your metabolism will get a boost and work at a little bit of a faster pace for you for the rest of the day!

Give these tips a try to let your skin breath a little!!
