The Yeses & No’s of Putting Up Your Hair

I am one of those people who loves to do different things with my hair (as you all probably know). I dye it, cut it, grow it out, put it up, let it stay down, you get the idea! But… Recently I came to wonder if doing all this to my hair was a great idea, putting my hair up in particular. Here are my yeses and no’s to putting your hair up. Some may be very basic and some not so much.

Yeses:

  1. Changes things up
  2. keeps hair off your face which can help prevent acne
  3. saves time
  4. allows you to have more excuses to use dry shampoo
  5. allows you to try different hairstyles (buns, braids, and ponytails)
  6. versatile for any occasion

No’s:

  1. can make hair dry
  2. causes breakage from where an elastic was over time
  3. tightening the elastic can cause pain on your scalp
  4. consistent undo’s cause hair to fall out more frequently
  5. weight of hair on the head can cause headaches

New Hair…. Don’t Care??

Summer time is when you can change things up a little. Some use it to change their wardrobe. And while this is understandable (summer time usually means HEAT) its not the only thing you can change… Your hair is another. People change the way they want their hair to look all the time and sometimes often (for example: my dad decided to grow his hair to his shoulders almost 8 years ago and just about 2 years ago decided to chop it off, at almost 60!) The urge to change things up with one’s appearance does not just happen with women. Step outside of the norm (I’ve chopped my hair to a pixie 3 times in life and shaved off 1/2 of it at one point)

Some Of My Different Hair Transformations

Summer time is a great time to shorten it, maybe a little or maybe a lot-that’s up to you. Sometimes you don’t have a choice unfortunately. If you’re one of those people who bleach your lovely hair a lot or quite often, be warned you would have had to cut it anyway, even if you didn’t want to. Recently, I have been going back and forth between wanting long hair and wanting short hair. But being where I am from, with the beach weather and the heat coming in more with summer picking up, I have decided to do both. In about a month I will be chopping more of my hair off (maybe in a bob, maybe a lob- can you tell that I can’t decide?) and then over the next few months after summer, I will be letting it grow out. The great thing about this is if I end up changing my mind again, I can chop it off again. People seem to fear chopping their hair off, and I find that a lot of the time this fear is because they have two reasons. First, they think they will not look good with short hair (this may be true for you but you will never know till you try it right?) and second is because they are simply afraid of change. But in truth change happens all the time, embrace that change! (I say this but I fear changing the bigger things in life). If you are afraid of changing it up for summer, maybe start by cutting off a least an inch-an inch and a 1/2 to start. After you’ve tested this out for a month, decide if you are ready for that chop. Then go back in a make the bigger cut! For those who fear it, remember that summer is just a season and if you do decide to do it….. It always grows back! Try a new look for summer! You might be surprised by the changes you can make with yourself with just a haircut!
