How Often Should You Trim

Many people get confused with how often to trim their hair. Sometimes we get recommendations from our hairstylists and we don’t take them because it can be expensive. But honestly the length of your hair determines how long you should wait to trim your hair. If you’re a guy with short hair than getting a clean up around the edges is guessed to be around 2-4 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows and 4-6 weeks for a haircut. If you want to grow out your hair, do it! But be warned that you will have an awkward growing out phase. For women, with a pixie haircut you should get it cleaned up every 4-6 weeks. If you can rock a pixie, do it without fear (and I applaud you)! With a shoulder length hair cut it is the same time frame depending on the texture of your hair (thick hair is about 4-6 weeks, thin hair is around 6-8). If you want to grow out your hair then be patient because it does take time. On average everyone’s hair grows about 1/2-1 inch every month (again this depends on your hair type). So if you do want long hair, you have got to keep up with a trim at least 8-10 weeks, sometimes 6-8 if your hair is fine. The reason why long hair should keep up with a trim is because during the process of growing out your hair, it is easy to develop split ends regardless of how much you brush your hair. Split ends travel up the hair and get worse and worse as it goes. By prolonging trim time you are creating a more difficult problem with split ends which means a more major hair cut later! If you want to grow out your hair, don’t let split ends go to far! Talk to your stylist about the best times to get your hair trimmed and work out what is best for you. Every hair stylist no matter your gender or haircut will give you the same response, 4-6 weeks. Work out a time frame that works for you! Know your hair and plan accordingly! Your paying, you should be happy with the way your hair looks all the time!Screen Shot 2016-06-04 at 8.28.16 AM
